Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary App Reviews

My first Learners dictionary, I love to use it. You get so many possibilities to really "work" with a word and learn about Word origins, Spoken Sentences, Thesaurus, Idioms, Spelling, using in context, Favorite Lists... Pronunciation for BrE and AmE are both great made. Sometimes you find little sketches to get simplified the clue. Thanks! Henry. Now I go the build and enlarge my vocabulary:)

Just an empty app to encourage you to make IAP!!!

Pros: 1) Sound file for North American pronunciation included in addition to BrE; 2) Sound file for example sentences included in addition to main entries; 3) Other strengths that the competitor(s) also tend to have. Cons/Suggestions: 1)*** Import and export of favorite lists are not allowed (so the Oxford 3000TM list of important words and the Academic Word list cant be imported for study either); 2) Only one favorite list; 3) Unable to assign a value to each entry in a favorite list, say a value to indicate a users familiarity with the word; 4) Unable to sort a favorite list based on different characteristics and then moving forward/backward within the sorted list directly on the definition page of each entry. Note: itd be very useful to integrate with other programs as well, such as Safari and iBook, so as to directly search for a words definition by typing on it, but guess this feature comes with too much technical difficulty. Recommendation: buy if you just need it as a reference, but check carefully before purchase if you plan to use it as a learning tool for expansion or consolidation of your vocabulary. English is my second language, but Ive been a business school faculty member in North America for many years since obtaining my Ph.D. here. If the developers could pay attention to my comments above, this dictionary can attract lots of more customers and generate significant benefits for both users and developers. Please bear in mind that ESL users and students are indeed the main customer base for this dictionary, and the suggestions above can help a great deal with meeting users learning needs. For example, students preparing for various English tests such as TOEFL/GMAT/GRE and middle school final exams can import their respective vocabulary lists to this dictionary, and then study the lists with the great content of this dictionary. The content of this dictionary is simply remarkable. I first read it as a fresh college student, and literally loved it right away, regretting not having discovered it earlier. There was unspoken beauty in between the definitions and sample sentences of this dictionary, and often I simply enjoyed reading it page after page. Am excited to find this dictionary in app store, and trust it will help me brush up my vocabulary and deepen my understanding of English. Ill give it 4 stars if a new version adopts my first suggestion on importing/exporting favorite lists, and 5 stars if two more suggestions are answered for. More importantly to developers, your revenues will increase sharply and exponentially if you act on all suggestions.

1 Unfortunately,I have alreday updated it on my ipad. Yes,i cannot use it now. 2 Could you please optimize it for iPhone5 ? 3 Could you add a function like "Favorites sync"? It will be very useful for people who both has iPhone and iPad.

This app is quite amazing, especially the feature of reading example sentences helps a lot. Also, I like it that it uses IPA to indicate the pronounciation. The only two thing that Im not so satisfied with is the vocabulary. Hope it could be extended more; the other thing is that sometimes there is some mistakes when I try to search a word. For example, when I type wound, wind is returned, and wound is a distance of several words below wind. Hope it could be fixed.

1- Adding to favorite shouldnt take 3 step. 2- Favorite list does not sync between different devices 3- Shorter time for uploading the app

it takes about 3s to load the app for iphone 4, if you can improve it, it can be better.

Whole text search is not working any more, the search of even the simplest phrases produces no results, beautiful appearance, disappointing searching algorithm!! Id rather revert back to previous version!!

This app is much better than Longman Dictionary. Having audio for sentences is a great idea and feature that this app has. The only problem it has is; 1-selecting a part of the meaning for copy is so difficult and most of time not possible!!! 2-It has a space problem between meaning, its slightly hard to read.

This update has no new features, except some interface changes, and asking to pay more from the previously-purchased users. There is no way to share or print the entries. Be aware that your search history will be deleted after this update.

This is the best dictionary after all. Clear explaination, real UK/US sound, so I can pronounce correctly. Also has illustrations, which helps me enrich my vocabulary. The best thing this dic has is the real sound. No other dic apps have this feature! The real spoken sentences also makes this dictionary app more powerful than other apps.

The current in-app purchase information suggests that the complete dictionary is available for free. This is not true.

The app in the AppStore said this app is "family shared". But the new update didnt allow it. It deleted old version and family sharing stopped. What is the problem with people? This app is not cheap and not shareable among family. Does the developers even have kids?

What is happening?!!!!!! I install it on my iPhone and Im asking to pay it again when Im trying to install it on my 2nd device (my IPod). And this is kind of expensive app! I feel cheated! DONT BUY IT!!!

This is the best dictionary app I ever used. Put all meanings under one entry is particularly easy to learn. However, I can not export the favourite list to my iPhone. This is a major inconvenience . Second, I can not really print the favourite list. Have to email it first.

音声ファイルをインストールしても音声がでない。 本体と音声ファイルのバージョンを合わせおけ。 詐欺だぞ。

I cant start new version on my iPhone5. But I can use on my 3rd iPad. I like this application, and it is very useful to me. I hope fix bug ASAP.
